1.) What does the Uncharted Forest symbolize in Anthem?
The Unchartered Forest symbolizes fear, but also freedom, fear to those who don't understand it
, and freedom to the one brave enough to enter it.

2.) Describe the house from Chapter X and its contents in your own words, and explain why Liberty and Equality find it so strange and unique.
When Liberty and Equality find the house, they know it's from the old days. It was basically an ideal family house, with many books. They found it so strange because no one in their society lived in

4.) What does Equality now realize is the proper goal and purpose of his life?

He realizes that his purpose in life is to be free, and to love Liberty. He is determined to set free the rest of the society who wishes to be free. He wants to live for himself and teach others to do the same.

.) In a well-organized paragraph, describe the society in which Anthem is set. Some areas to consider are the political structure, degree of technology, social relationships, quality of life, and education. Would you want to live in this society? Explain why or why not.

The society in which Anthem is set is a supposedly well structured place. The only drawback is that no one is happy. They're not allowed to be individuals and they can't consider themselves as "I" it's all about the "we" and the collective mind. You're only supposed to care about uplifiting your brothers and loving them without them deserving it. They're are a strictly primal society, they barely have any technology. Candles are as advanced as they get. The men and women are not allowed to fraternize except for one day a year when they go to repopulate their society. They are punished for their education to exceed that of the others in their society. I would not enjoy this community because I am an individual person. I like being different. I enjoy being able to use the word I and only having to think of myself occasionally.

2.) When does this novel take place—in the past, the present, or the future? How do you know? Please provide specific clues from the text.
THis novel takes place far into the future. Other societies have killed themselves out and they have started completely over. They went back to their primal instincts, except they changed the basic knowledge of everyone. They keep refferring back to the "dark times" and how much technology was found there. They talk about the great wars that killed everyone off. That's how you know it takes place far into the future.

3.) What does Equality discover in this Chapter III? How important is this discovery? Describe 4–5 ways in which it would help society, and make life easier or more enjoyable
In chapter 3 Equality finds a manhole. He doesn't know what it is, only that it's a place that he can go and be alone. It's important because that is where everything starts for him. It's how he learns to be different and stand up for what he believes in. It's also where he discovers electricity again. He brings forth something that has not been seen in years.

.4.) How would your teachers react if you had Equality’s “curse”? Why do Equality’s teachers disapprove of his quick mind? At this point in the novel, does Equality accept the moral teachings of his society? If so, why doesn’t he initially feel shame or remorse when he knows that he’s committing a crime? Find textual evidence to support your answer. Does this change as the novel progresses?

Teachers now would consider Equality's curse a blessing. He was knowledgable, my teachers would be thrilled with a student like him. They do no like his mind in the novel because they believe he is trying to out do his brothers. In the beginning he accepts the moral teachings of his community but he's not happy with them. He soon learns that no one is happy in that society. At first he feels bad about being smarter than the others, but eventually he sees it as a good thing and sees it as what makes him an individual. Instead of shying away from his knowledge, when he finds the manhole he starts delving into it and pulling it out. That shows he's not ashamed anymore.

"But reason is a property of the individual. There is no such thing as a collective mind."

I agree with this statement for the reason that everyone's brain works on a different level. Everyone has their own thoughts. Even though computers all work on one global brain, they're still only computers. The computer could never replace our brain, our brains change and learn through experience. A computer must be programmed. As we grown and change our brains and thoughts adapt to that. A computer could never do that.

I believe that religon is a very important part of helping man's struggle to deal with reality. Look at everything around us. Almost all of this seems impossible. The way we grow, the animals, the plants, without a central power how could all of this exist? Living is an amazing thing, and religion gives people a sense of morality. It helps determine between right and wrong. So therefore I believe that religion helps the man's struggle to deal with reality and survive.

e.

I believe that there is no such thing as the "common good". What is good for one thing is not neccessarily good for another. The "common good" is a myth that people make up in order to get everyone else to go along with their ideas and plans. The "common good" is fictional. I agree with Ayn Rand's viewpoints on the common good. Every tyrant in the history of the world has raised their tyrancy based on the "common good", so if they support the "common good" then what is individuality?

1.What might it be like to live in a society where there are no “selves”, and “we” has replaced “I”?
Everything in a world that there would be no selves and there would only be we, it would not be a world of individualists. I don't think it would be a very enojoyable place to live. I mean, you are supposed to have yourself, and be yourself, but in a place where there is only the "we" nothing be would be different. It would be a place where there would be fear, and nothing but living for others, even though they have earned no respect or no love from their fellow brothers and sisters. I do not believe that the world "we" should ever replace the word "I".

3. Explain the significance of the names Rand chose to give to her characters. Why were these particular names used?
Every name that was used to name the characters in her book were words that represented the collectiveness of their community. Like Equality and Liberty, and Justice. They all stand for the equality between all members of the community.

4. On p.51, Equality 7-2521 discussed the Unspeakable Word. What do you think this word is any why would it be considered unspeakable in this society? What would happen if this word was used and how would it change the way people think of their fellow people and theirselves?

I believe that the unspeakable word is I, it's a community that is meant to be equal and the same and collective. But as soon as someone speaks the word I then everything that they work for is gone. THat is why I believe that I is the unspeakable word.

How love effects people

Love is a very, very powerful emotion. I never knew how much it could effect someone until it actually happened to me. It makes me want to be a better person. I was blessed enough to find my true love. Most people say that I'm too young to know true love, but i believe that it's never too early to fall in love. There are first loves, there is infatuation, and then there's the true thing. I know that what I have found is true love, I've already had my first love, and it was nothing compared to what I feel now. Love is a strange but wonderful feeling. It gives you longing and fulfillment at the same time. Being in love makes me want to be the person that they can love. It brings out the best in me, it makes me happy. I can't believe how utterly happy I am when he looks into my eyes, when he holds me close, and when he whispers that he loves me. I could never believe in such a breathtaking emotion if it hadn't happened to me. I will never forget how it feels to be in love so deeply, and i'll never find his equal.
